Parker, AZ - As the 30th season of SCORE International Desert Racing gets under way at the Laughlin Desert Challenge January 16-19, 2003, a new name will be facing off against SCORE's Trophy Truck heavyweights. Along with the names of Ashley, Smith, Steinberger, Jefferies, and the Herbst, a young talented driver named Jim Beaver will take an 800 horsepower truck and a bundle of determination into battle with desert racing's all-stars. In the process, he will be attempting to etch his name in the stone of motorsport's most grueling discipline.

"It has always been a dream of mine to compete in the Trophy Truck class, I just didn't know it would happen so fast," explained Beaver. "I think any kid growing up in the Southwest US that has seen a race or one of these trucks has dreamed about it. I looked up to guys like Dave Ashley, Dan Smith, and Robby Gordon growing up, and now I will be racing against them."

Turning 22 just three weeks before the season opener in Laughlin, Nevada, Jim Beaver will become only the 2nd youngest American to ever take the green flag in SCORE Trophy Truck competition. The youngest driver being none other than NASCAR Winston Cup star Jimmie Johnson. So just how big of a feat is this? Considering the average age of the Trophy Truck drivers at this past years Baja 1000 was 37, it is quite an accomplishment.

Jim grew up in the small town of Parker, Arizona on the Colorado River, a place that has been called home to names such as Parnelli Jones, Paul Tracy, Robby Gordon, Walker Evans, and Manny Esquerra. Growing up in this environment, he honed his skills racing Class 8, which is the Busch, Toyota Atlantic, or Infiniti Pro Series of off road truck racing. With the wealth of knowledge learned there, and the expertise of a 28-year off road veteran father at his side, along with a grandfather who is a hall of fame boat racer, the young Beaver will attempt to put himself into the record books as the youngest American to ever take victory at off road racing's pinnacle, the SCORE Trophy Truck class.

Along with rising to the premier division of off road racing, Jim is currently finishing up a business degree through Northern Arizona University and trying to follow the likes of Rick Mears, Robby Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, and Brendan Gaughan from off road to a career in pavement racing.

"I am looking into several opportunities outside of the desert," said Beaver. "Whether it be open wheel, stock cars, or even moving to Europe, I am trying to keep all of my options open at this time. I am currently trying to finish my business degree, and I have gone on a Formula 1 type fitness program, so whatever I decide to do, I can offer the total package."

As Jim Beaver heads into the 2003 season and attempts to make history, there is no doubt his career will be monitored by many. Whether he becomes the youngest American to ever take victory in the SCORE Trophy Truck class, or is the next desert racer to jump out of the dirt and onto the pavement, he has a bright future ahead of him in the racing world.
